The Big South Fork is actually a tributary of the Cumberland River. It's beginnings are formed south of Yamacraw, Tennessee at the confluence of the New River and the Clear Fork River before it flows in a northerly fashion to join with the main stream of the Cumberland River.

The river is pristine in it's beauty and has become very well know in the whitewater community due to the many world class rapids along it's length. Most of the length of the 121 mile Big South Fork is in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
